Be a Better Bulldog

The program began several years ago as an orientation for incoming freshmen. The students attending this program will get a tour of the school, meet several upper classmen in addition to other incoming students, receive their class schedules before any of the other students, and receive a t-shirt. The tour focuses on places they may be dealing with at the start of school, such as the bookstore, the library, and health clinic.
There is enough stress with a new school without worrying about where classes are located. Be A Better Bulldog is a fun way to become familiar with the school, learn the rules, and meet new people. If your student hasn’t signed up for BBB, call Mr. Apple at (812) 542-8506 ext. 2620 and join the party.

Interested in Advertising?

Please contact Mr. Apple (call (812) 542-8506, ext. 2620 or email rapple@nafcs.k12.in.us) if you are interested in placing an ad in the NAHS student handbook for next year. The funds help support our Be a Better Bulldog student leadership program. This program facilitates freshmen orientation, after-school peer tutoring, peer mentoring for all freshmen, and student leadership opportunities. The cost is $100 for a ½-page ad and $200 for a full-page ad. Approximately 2,000 students, 120 teachers, administrators, school board members, and college practicum students receive copies of the planner.

Get Involved

The quickest way to become comfortable in new surroundings is to become part of a group. Encourage your student to join an athletic group or to get into band or theater. Clubs will begin soon after the start of school. We have several teams and organizations that are popular in addition to an array of clubs for practically any interest.

For freshmen coming into New Albany High School, you may be eligible to apply for membership into the National Honor Society if, as a junior, you have a 3.2 grade point average. Now is the time to start keeping a record of everything you do regarding community service, extra curricular activities, any awards or honors you receive, and sports. If you ring the bell for the Salvation Army, if you are in the church choir, if your scout group cleaned a park, what ever the activity, make a note of it. When applying for membership in the National Honor Society, you will receive points for your accomplishments and this record will help you remember. This information will also come in handy as a senior when you begin to apply for scholarships.

School Pictures

School pictures will be taken mid-August. Senior pictures may be taken during the summer and school year. In addition to regular picture packages, a student ID will be made at no charge. A student ID is required for dances, school functions, and may sometimes be required during the day for identification.

Problems

Everyone at NAHS is accessible. If you have a problem, don’t hesitate to call. Teachers have a planning period when they can meet with parents or talk to you over the phone. They are willing to work with you regarding any problem that concerns you. You can set up appointments with counselors, assistant principals, or Dr. Page. While they ask you not to bring problems to Open House, you can contact anyone any other time.

Speaking of Open House, this is a good time to find and meet the teachers, find out how they grade, and find out exactly what they expect from their students. They will also let you know how to contact them with any problems you may have.

The owner of this website has made a commitment to accessibility and inclusion, please report any problems that you encounter using the contact form on this website. This site uses the WP ADA Compliance Check plugin to enhance accessibility.
